Old Academy (Munich)

The Alte Akademie (Old Academy) in Munich, Germany, is a significant historical building located in the heart of the city, on Neuhauser Straße. It served as the primary location of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities from its completion in 1597 until the Academy relocated to its current premises in the mid-20th century.

Originally constructed as a Jesuit college (Collegium St. Michael), the building reflects Renaissance architectural influences. Following the dissolution of the Jesuit order in 1773, the building underwent various transformations. This association significantly shaped the building's identity, leading to its common name, Alte Akademie.
