Donald Gosling

Donald Gosling (1930-2024) was a British businessman, philanthropist, and naval architect. He was best known as the co-founder of National Car Parks (NCP), which became the largest car park operator in the United Kingdom.

Gosling was born in Bethnal Green, London, and began his career as a naval architect. He served in the Royal Navy before entering the business world. In 1948, he co-founded Central Car Parks, later renamed National Car Parks (NCP), with Ronald Hobson. He played a significant role in the growth and development of NCP, ultimately leading to its sale in 1998.

Beyond his business career, Gosling was a notable philanthropist, supporting a variety of causes including maritime heritage, healthcare, and education. He was a generous benefactor to numerous organizations, often with a focus on supporting naval personnel and maritime-related charities. His contributions helped fund the refurbishment of HMS Warrior, a Victorian warship, and other heritage projects.

Gosling was also a dedicated yachtsman and owned several notable yachts throughout his life. He received several honors for his contributions to business and philanthropy.
