Dmitry Vasilyev (biathlete)

Dmitry Vasilyev (born December 31, 1962, in Leningrad, Soviet Union) is a retired Soviet and Russian biathlete. He competed for the Soviet Union at the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics, winning a gold medal in the 4x7.5km relay in both games. Vasilyev also won two gold medals in the 4x7.5km relay at the Biathlon World Championships in 1986 and 1987. Individually, his best result at the World Championships was a silver medal in the 20km individual event in 1987. He also earned a bronze medal in the same event in 1986. Vasilyev’s career spanned the latter half of the 1980s and he was a significant member of the dominant Soviet biathlon team during that period. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, he competed for Russia.
