Burrard (electoral district)
Burrard was a former provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It existed intermittently from 1890 to 1986. It was named for Burrard Inlet, a body of water adjacent to the city of Vancouver.
The riding was located in the city of Vancouver and its boundaries shifted over time, reflecting the growth and changing demographics of the city. It often overlapped geographically with other Vancouver-area ridings.
Historically, Burrard was a multi-member riding at times, electing multiple Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) simultaneously. The number of MLAs it elected varied depending on the electoral redistribution.
The electoral district saw representation from a variety of political parties, including the Liberals, Conservatives, Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), Social Credit, and New Democratic Party (NDP). This reflected the diverse political landscape of Vancouver and British Columbia as a whole.
Burrard ceased to exist as an electoral district after the 1986 provincial election due to electoral boundary revisions. Its territory was redistributed into other Vancouver-area ridings.
