Dibyapuri
Dibyapuri was a kingdom located in present-day Surkhet District, Karnali Province, Nepal, during the Malla period of the Kathmandu Valley (c. 1200-1769 CE). It emerged as a significant power in the Karnali region, controlling important trade routes and exerting influence over surrounding smaller principalities. Historically, the kingdom's influence extended across parts of Western Nepal. Dibyapuri played a crucial role in the socio-political landscape of the region, with its rulers often involved in alliances and conflicts with other contemporary kingdoms and principalities. Information regarding specific rulers and internal affairs of Dibyapuri is relatively scarce compared to information on the Malla kingdoms of Kathmandu Valley. Sources mainly comprise historical chronicles, copperplate inscriptions, and local traditions. Over time, the kingdom of Dibyapuri was eventually integrated into the expanding Gorkha kingdom during the unification of Nepal in the late 18th century. Further research is required to fully understand its complex history and contributions to the Karnali region.
