Devil's Playground (2010 film)
Devil's Playground is a 2010 British horror film directed by Mark McQueen. The film stars Danny Dyer, Craig Fairbrass, and MyAnna Buring. It is based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Dan Schaffer.
The film is set in London in the near future. A medical research company, N-GEN, develops a cure for Alzheimer's disease called "The Cure." However, the cure has a devastating side effect: it turns its recipients into hyper-violent, cannibalistic creatures. Cole, a mercenary, is hired to rescue Dr. Angela Rossi, the scientist who created The Cure, after an outbreak within the N-GEN facility. He leads a team through the infected building, facing hordes of the infected while trying to understand the cause and contain the spread of the virus. The plot follows their desperate attempt to survive and escape the overrun facility.
Key themes explored in the film include corporate greed, the dangers of unchecked scientific advancement, and the collapse of societal order in the face of a rapidly spreading infection. The film utilizes elements of both zombie and action genres.
The film received generally negative reviews, with critics citing its derivative plot and reliance on gore and violence over character development. Some critics noted the film's fast pace and action sequences as redeeming qualities, while others criticized the dialogue and performances.
