Deliboz

Deliboz (also spelled Deliboz or Deli Boz) is a historical type of light cavalry horse breed originating from Azerbaijan. Primarily developed in the Agdam region, the Deliboz was known for its hardiness, endurance, speed, and sure-footedness, making it well-suited for mountainous terrain and warfare. The breed played a significant role in the cavalry units of the Caucasus region, particularly during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Deliboz breed was influenced by various other horse breeds, including Arabian, Karabakh, and Turkoman horses. Breeding practices focused on selecting horses with desirable traits for military use, such as stamina and agility. While the breed experienced a decline in numbers during the 20th century due to wars and changing agricultural practices, efforts have been made to preserve and revive the Deliboz breed. These efforts include selective breeding programs and the establishment of stud farms dedicated to maintaining the unique characteristics of the Deliboz horse. The breed is known for its relatively small stature, typically standing between 14 and 15 hands high. Common coat colors include bay, gray, and chestnut.
