David Joyce (businessman)
David Joyce is an American businessman, primarily known for his career at General Electric (GE) and its subsequent spin-off, GE Aviation. He served as Vice Chairman of GE and President and CEO of GE Aviation.
Joyce joined GE in 1980. He held various leadership positions within GE Aircraft Engines (later GE Aviation) over the years, including general manager roles in commercial engines and military engines. He was named President and CEO of GE Aviation in 2008.
Under his leadership, GE Aviation experienced significant growth, driven by the success of its jet engine programs, including the GEnx engine for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the LEAP engine developed in partnership with Safran Aircraft Engines through their joint venture, CFM International. Joyce emphasized technological innovation and the development of more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines.
Joyce retired from GE in 2020. He has since remained active in the aviation industry and serves on the boards of various companies. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from Boston University and an MBA from Xavier University. His leadership style is often described as focused on performance and operational excellence.
