Desaparecidos (band)

Desaparecidos is an American indie rock band from Omaha, Nebraska, formed in 2001. The band is fronted by Conor Oberst, also known for his work with Bright Eyes. The name "Desaparecidos" translates from Spanish to "The Disappeared," referring to the victims of forced disappearance, a human rights issue prevalent in Latin America, particularly during authoritarian regimes.

The band's music is characterized by Oberst's distinctive vocals and politically charged lyrics, often addressing social and economic inequalities, suburban alienation, and disillusionment with American politics. Musically, they blend elements of punk rock, post-punk, and indie rock, creating a sound that is both melodic and aggressive.

Desaparecidos released their debut album, Read Music/Speak Spanish, in 2002 to critical acclaim. The album tackled themes of urban sprawl, consumerism, and the struggles of working-class Americans.

After a hiatus of several years, Desaparecidos reunited in 2010 and began performing live again. They released their second album, Payola, in 2015. Payola continued the band's tradition of politically conscious songwriting, addressing topics such as corporate greed, environmental destruction, and the influence of money in politics.

While Desaparecidos hasn't released new material since Payola, they remain an influential band, known for their passionate live performances and their willingness to tackle difficult and important issues in their music. The band's discography includes two studio albums, several singles, and EPs.
