Ban Thap

Ban Thap refers to a complex of ancient Cham towers located in Binh Dinh province, Vietnam. It is considered one of the most important and well-preserved Cham architectural sites in the region. The name "Ban Thap" translates roughly to "Ten Towers," although the actual number of structures visible today is less than ten.

The towers at Ban Thap are believed to have been constructed during the 12th and 13th centuries, reflecting the artistic and religious traditions of the Cham civilization, which flourished in central Vietnam from the 2nd to the 15th centuries. The towers are built primarily of red brick and are decorated with intricate carvings depicting Hindu deities, mythological creatures, and scenes from daily life.

The architectural style of Ban Thap reflects a blend of influences, including indigenous Cham traditions, as well as elements of Indian and Khmer art. The site typically consists of several different types of structures, including kalan (sanctuaries or temples), mandapa (assembly halls), kosagrha (fire houses), and gate towers.

The Ban Thap towers served as religious and cultural centers for the Cham people, and they remain an important historical and cultural landmark in Vietnam. The site is a popular destination for tourists and researchers interested in Cham art and architecture. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and restore the remaining structures at Ban Thap to ensure their continued survival for future generations.
