Jorge Campinos (politician)

Jorge Campinos (born April 29, 1937, Lisbon, Portugal – died November 26, 2021, Lisbon, Portugal) was a Portuguese lawyer, politician, and government minister. He was a prominent figure in the Socialist Party (Partido Socialista) and served in various ministerial roles during Portugal's transition to democracy following the Carnation Revolution in 1974.

Campinos graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. He was a lawyer by profession before entering politics.

Following the 1974 revolution, Campinos became involved in the Socialist Party, aligning himself with the socialist ideals of freedom, equality, and social justice. He held several significant ministerial positions during the 1970s and 1980s, including Minister of Labor (Ministro do Trabalho) and Minister of Industry and Energy (Ministro da Indústria e Energia). As Minister of Labor, he played a key role in shaping labor laws and policies during a period of significant social and economic change in Portugal. His tenure as Minister of Industry and Energy was marked by efforts to modernize Portugal's industrial base and develop its energy resources.

Campinos was known for his dedication to public service and his commitment to building a democratic and prosperous Portugal. He was a respected figure within the Socialist Party and Portuguese political landscape. After his time in government, he continued to be involved in public life, offering his expertise and insights on a range of issues.

He died in Lisbon on November 26, 2021, at the age of 84.
