Daredevil (TV series)

Daredevil is an American television series created by Drew Goddard for Netflix, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise. The series follows Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer by day and vigilante by night, as he combats crime in Hell's Kitchen, New York City.

Synopsis:

The series depicts Matt Murdock, blinded as a child in an accident that heightened his other senses to superhuman levels. Now an adult, he balances his life as a lawyer dedicated to fighting for the innocent with his nocturnal activities as Daredevil, a masked vigilante who takes down criminals the legal system can't touch. Throughout the series, Murdock confronts threats ranging from organized crime led by Wilson Fisk to the shadowy organization known as The Hand. He is assisted by his law partner and best friend, Foggy Nelson, and their paralegal, Karen Page.

Subsequent showrunners were Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez (season two) and Erik Oleson (season three).

The series consists of three seasons, originally released on Netflix:

  • Season 1 (2015): Focuses on Daredevil's efforts to dismantle Wilson Fisk's criminal empire.
  • Season 2 (2016): Introduces Frank Castle / The Punisher and Elektra Natchios, forcing Daredevil to confront different approaches to justice.
  • Season 3 (2018): Sees Wilson Fisk released from prison and plotting his revenge, pushing Matt Murdock to his physical and emotional limits.

Cancellation and Revival:

Daredevil was cancelled by Netflix in November 2018, along with the other Marvel series produced for the platform. However, the rights to the character reverted to Marvel Studios, and in 2022, Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home. A new Daredevil series, Daredevil: Born Again, is currently in development for Disney+.
