Damame
Damame is a small, fried dumpling popular in several West African countries, particularly in Ghana and Nigeria. It is made from beans, typically black-eyed peas, that are soaked, de-skinned, and ground into a smooth paste. This paste is then mixed with spices such as onions, peppers, and salt. The mixture is formed into small balls or patties and deep-fried until golden brown and crispy.
Damame is often served as a snack or side dish, and can be eaten on its own or with a variety of sauces. It is a common street food and is also prepared at home. Similar to akara, another popular bean cake, Damame provides a source of protein and is considered a staple in some communities. Variations exist depending on regional preferences and available ingredients.
