Constantine Doukas (sebastos)

Constantine Doukas was a Byzantine aristocrat and military figure of the late 11th and early 12th centuries, a member of the powerful Doukas family. He was the son of the protostrator Michael Doukas and a grandson of Emperor Constantine X Doukas (r. 1059-1067). The title sebastos, meaning "August One," was a high-ranking imperial honorific.

While details of his early life are sparse, Constantine Doukas distinguished himself in military service under Emperor Alexios I Komnenos (r. 1081-1118). He participated in various campaigns against the Pechenegs, Cumans, and other threats to the Byzantine Empire. He held important military commands, demonstrating courage and competence on the battlefield.

His relationship to the Komnenos dynasty provided him with considerable influence and status. He held significant positions within the Byzantine hierarchy. Details of his later life and death are not extensively documented, but his association with the Doukas family and his military contributions ensure his place in Byzantine history. He represents a key member of the Byzantine aristocracy during a period of political and military challenges and recovery under the Komnenoi.
