Comercocha (Ocongate)
Comercocha is a glacial lake located in the Ocongate district of the Quispicanchi Province in the Cusco Region of Peru. It is situated at a high altitude in the Andes Mountains, near the Ausangate mountain range. The lake is part of a network of glacial lakes and is a source of water for local communities and ecosystems. Its name, "Comercocha," is likely derived from Quechua, the language of the indigenous people of the region, with "cocha" meaning lake. The lake's turquoise color is characteristic of glacial lakes due to the presence of rock flour, finely ground rock particles produced by glacial erosion. Comercocha is a popular destination for hikers and trekkers exploring the Ausangate region.
