Christopher Hodson (bellfounder)

Christopher Hodson (1610/11 – 1687) was an English bellfounder. He was a prominent figure in the bellfounding industry during the 17th century, known for his prolific output and the quality of his bells.

Hodson was based in London, and later Stondon Massey, Essex. He established his bellfounding business after serving his apprenticeship, and his work can be found in numerous churches across England, particularly in the south-east. He often marked his bells with his initials, "CH", or his full name.

Hodson's bells are notable for their tonal characteristics and robust construction. He cast bells in a variety of sizes, ranging from small sanctus bells to larger tenor bells used in change ringing. His designs were relatively conservative, following established patterns of the time, but his craftsmanship was highly regarded.

After his death in 1687, the business was continued by his son, also named Christopher Hodson. The Hodson family continued to be involved in bellfounding for several generations.
