Christine (1983 film)
Christine is a 1983 American horror film directed by John Carpenter and starring Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, and Harry Dean Stanton. The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's 1983 novel of the same name.
The plot centers on a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine, which is possessed by malevolent supernatural forces. Arnie Cunningham, a socially awkward teenager, becomes obsessed with the car, neglecting his friends and family as he restores her. Christine's influence gradually transforms Arnie, making him more confident but also more aggressive and possessive.
As Arnie's obsession grows, those who try to interfere with his relationship with Christine become targets of the car's deadly vengeance. Christine exhibits self-repairing abilities and a murderous intent, fueled by the spirit of her previous owner, Roland D. LeBay. The film explores themes of obsession, the corrupting influence of power, and the dangers of technology.
Christine was a box office success and received mixed to positive reviews. It is considered a cult classic and a prominent example of 1980s horror cinema. The film's special effects, particularly those showcasing Christine's self-repairing abilities, were groundbreaking for their time. The soundtrack, composed by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth, is also highly regarded.
