Changing of the Seasons (album)
Changing of the Seasons is the third studio album by the American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released on September 19, 1995, through East West Records. It is a concept album built around the titular 23-minute track, "A Change of Seasons," which details a journey through the four seasons, reflecting themes of life, death, and rebirth.
The album also features a collection of cover songs performed live at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London on January 31, 1995. These cover songs pay tribute to some of Dream Theater's musical influences, and include performances of songs by Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Journey, and Deep Purple.
Changing of the Seasons is notable for its intricate musical arrangements, progressive song structures, and introspective lyrical content. It is considered a significant entry in Dream Theater's discography, bridging the gap between their earlier, more technically-focused work and their later, more experimental albums. The album showcased the band's versatility and musicianship, and remains a fan favorite. The recording and production were handled by the band and Kevin Shirley.
