USS Adroit (MSO-509)
USS Adroit (MSO-509) was an Aggressive-class minesweeper of the United States Navy. Laid down on 15 November 1954 by the J. M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corp., Tacoma, Washington, she was launched on 14 June 1955, and commissioned on 29 March 1957.
Adroit, as a minesweeper ocean (MSO), was designed to detect, identify, and neutralize mines in deep water. These vessels were essential for maintaining open sea lanes during times of conflict. The Aggressive-class represented a significant improvement in mine warfare capabilities for the U.S. Navy during the Cold War era.
Throughout her service, Adroit participated in numerous fleet exercises and deployments, both domestically and overseas. She played a role in ensuring the safety of maritime routes.
Decommissioned on 30 September 1992, Adroit was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 8 April 1994. Her ultimate fate is recorded as sunk as a target.
