Bruno Haas
Bruno Haas (born October 30, 1887, in Berlin, Germany; died May 28, 1961, in New York City, USA) was a German-American entomologist and businessman. He is best known for his work on the morphology and taxonomy of mites (Acari), particularly those associated with plants.
Haas emigrated to the United States in the late 1930s, fleeing Nazi Germany. Prior to his emigration, he worked in Germany, contributing significantly to the understanding of European mite fauna. After arriving in the United States, he continued his research, although often independently due to the difficulties of establishing himself in a new country and securing academic positions. He also pursued business interests to support himself and his family.
Haas published numerous scientific papers, many of which described new species and genera of mites. His meticulous observations and detailed illustrations contributed significantly to the field of acarology. His work remains relevant to researchers studying mite diversity and evolution. His collections of mites are housed in various natural history museums.
