Bridge of National Unity (Hungary)
The Bridge of National Unity (Hungarian: Nemzeti Összetartozás Hídja) is a physical structure and symbolic monument in Sátoraljaújhely, Hungary. It commemorates the centennial of the Treaty of Trianon, which in 1920 redefined Hungary's borders, resulting in the loss of significant territory and population to neighboring countries.
The bridge spans the Ronyva stream, connecting two historically significant parts of Sátoraljaújhely that were divided by the border changes imposed by the treaty. It is constructed of stone and steel, with symbolic elements incorporated into its design.
The monument serves as a place for remembrance and national unity. It aims to honor the memory of those who were affected by the Treaty of Trianon and to foster a sense of national identity among Hungarians both within and outside of Hungary's current borders. It is a site for official ceremonies and public gatherings, particularly on the anniversary of the Treaty of Trianon. The bridge represents a desire for cooperation and understanding among nations in the Carpathian Basin while simultaneously serving as a reminder of past grievances and territorial losses.
