Brett Maher (basketball)
Brett Maher is an Australian former professional basketball player. He is best known for his long and distinguished career with the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League (NBL) of Australia. Maher played primarily as a point guard and shooting guard and was renowned for his scoring ability, court vision, and leadership.
Maher was a key figure in the Adelaide 36ers' success during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He won four NBL championships with the team (1998, 1999, 2000, and 2002) and was named the NBL Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1996 and 1999. He also earned NBL Grand Final MVP honors in 1999.
Throughout his NBL career, Maher was a consistent scorer and playmaker. He holds the record for the most points scored in Adelaide 36ers history. His contributions extended beyond scoring, as he was also known for his assists and defensive efforts.
After retiring from professional basketball, Maher remained involved in the sport through coaching and commentary. He is considered a legend of the Adelaide 36ers and a significant figure in the history of Australian basketball. He has been inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame.
