Bottomless Pit (band)
Bottomless Pit is an American indie rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2005. The band consists of former members of the influential noise rock band Silkworm: Tim Midyett (bass, vocals), Andy Cohen (guitar, vocals), and Brian McMahan (guitar, vocals). Drummer Chris Manfrin joined after Silkworm's dissolution.
Bottomless Pit formed following the death of Silkworm drummer Michael Dahlquist in a car accident. The remaining members of Silkworm initially intended to retire from music, but eventually began playing together again as a way to cope with their loss. They chose the name Bottomless Pit as a reference to their emotional state at the time, but also as a metaphor for the creative possibilities open to them.
The band is known for its intricate guitar work, complex song structures, and lyrics that often explore themes of loss, memory, and the passage of time. Their sound builds on the legacy of Silkworm, incorporating elements of post-punk, art rock, and alternative rock.
Bottomless Pit has released three studio albums: Hammer of the Gods (2007), Fatigue (2013), and Shade Perennial (2023). They have toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
