Border Troops of the State Security Service (Uzbekistan)
The Border Troops of the State Security Service (Uzbekistan), also known as the State Border Protection Committee of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, are the primary agency responsible for guarding and protecting the borders of Uzbekistan. As a component of the State Security Service (SGB) of Uzbekistan, they operate under its direct command and control.
The Border Troops are tasked with preventing illegal border crossings, combating smuggling and trafficking of drugs and other contraband, and protecting national interests within the border zone. They are responsible for land borders with Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
The Border Troops maintain various border posts, checkpoints, and patrol routes along the entire length of the Uzbek border. They utilize a combination of manpower, technical equipment, and intelligence gathering to fulfill their duties. Cooperation with neighboring countries' border security services is a significant aspect of their operational procedures.
Organizationally, the Border Troops are structured into regional commands and units responsible for specific sectors of the border. They employ a variety of specialized units, including rapid reaction forces, intelligence units, and technical support personnel. The personnel are generally conscripted and contract soldiers.
