Bob (TV series)
Bob was a short-lived American sitcom that aired on CBS from September 18, 1993, to December 18, 1993. Created by Al Franken, Tom Davis, and Jim Downey, the series starred Bob Newhart as Bob McKay, a struggling comic book artist who returns to his Wisconsin hometown to revive his long-forgotten superhero character, Mad-Dog.
The premise revolved around Bob's attempts to balance his artistic aspirations with the eccentric personalities and situations he encounters in his hometown. The supporting cast included Betty White as Bob's mother, Ruth, and John Cygan as Chad, a dim-witted bodybuilder. Other recurring characters included Lisa Kudrow (credited as Lisa Kudrow-Schwimmer) as Kathy Fleisher, a local cosmetics saleswoman who becomes Bob's love interest, and Cleo Rose as Iris, the daughter of Bob's neighbor.
Despite the presence of a popular lead actor and experienced comedy writers, Bob struggled in the ratings and received lukewarm reviews. Critics cited a lack of originality and uninspired writing as reasons for its failure. CBS cancelled the series after only nine episodes were aired, with the final three episodes remaining unaired in the US.
