Bill Armstrong (ice hockey, born 1970)
Bill Armstrong (born May 18, 1970) is a former professional ice hockey player. A defenceman, Armstrong played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, New York Rangers, and St. Louis Blues.
Armstrong was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fifth round, 98th overall, in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. He began his professional career with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) before being traded to the San Jose Sharks in 1993.
Over his NHL career, Armstrong was known as a stay-at-home defenceman, focusing on physical play and defensive responsibilities. He was not known for his offensive output. He played a total of 428 NHL regular season games, recording 4 goals and 25 assists for 29 points. He also accumulated 468 penalty minutes.
After his NHL career, Armstrong continued to play professionally in Europe, including stints in Germany.
