Bhangha

Bhangha refers to a traditional preparation of cannabis consumed in the Indian subcontinent. It has been used for centuries, both recreationally and within certain religious and cultural practices.

Bhangha is typically prepared from the leaves and flowering tops (buds) of the cannabis plant. Unlike other cannabis preparations that may primarily use the resin (hashish) or the buds themselves, bhangha utilizes the whole plant material to a greater extent.

The preparation process generally involves grinding the cannabis plant material into a paste. This paste is then mixed with other ingredients such as milk, ghee (clarified butter), nuts, spices like cardamom and ginger, and sugar or other sweeteners. The final product is often consumed as a drink, either in the form of a thick milkshake-like beverage (bhang lassi) or formed into small edible balls (bhang goli).

The effects of bhangha, like other cannabis products, are primarily attributed to the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound in cannabis. However, the specific effects can vary depending on the potency of the cannabis used, the method of preparation, and the individual consuming it. Effects can include euphoria, relaxation, altered perception, and in some cases, anxiety or paranoia.

Bhangha is associated with certain Hindu festivals, particularly Holi, and is sometimes consumed as a religious offering or as part of traditional celebrations. Its legal status varies across different regions within the Indian subcontinent, with some areas having stricter regulations regarding cannabis use than others. It is important to be aware of the local laws and regulations concerning cannabis before consuming or possessing bhangha.
