Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes (European Parliament constituency)
Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes was a European Parliament constituency covering the non-metropolitan county of Bedfordshire and the borough of Milton Keynes in England. It existed from 1994 to 1999.
Prior to 1994, Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes were part of other, larger constituencies. Bedfordshire was part of the Bedfordshire constituency, while Milton Keynes was typically included in the Northamptonshire constituency. The creation of Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes in 1994 was part of a wider redrawing of European Parliament constituency boundaries across the United Kingdom in advance of the 1994 European Parliament election.
The constituency elected one Member of the European Parliament (MEP) using the first-past-the-post electoral system.
In 1999, the constituency was abolished as part of a significant change in the electoral system for European Parliament elections in the UK. Instead of single-member constituencies, the UK adopted a regional list proportional representation system. As a result, Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes became part of the larger East of England European Parliament constituency, which elected multiple MEPs.
