Baškoti
Baškoti (also spelled baskoti) is a type of hard, twice-baked rusk or biscuit originating from South Africa. It is typically made from flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and baking powder, and often includes ingredients such as buttermilk, raisins, or nuts. After the initial baking, the baškoti are sliced and then baked again at a low temperature until they are completely dry and crisp. This double-baking process gives them a long shelf life.
Baškoti are commonly enjoyed dipped in coffee, tea, or other hot beverages. They are a popular snack, especially during morning or afternoon breaks. Their hard, dry texture is designed to soften when submerged in liquid, making them ideal for dipping. Different variations exist, incorporating various flavors and ingredients based on regional and family preferences.
