Cham Khun
Cham Khun is a Khmer (Cambodian) title of nobility, historically ranked among the higher tiers of the aristocracy. The precise meaning and rank of "Cham Khun" varied somewhat depending on the specific period and context within the Cambodian court, but it generally denoted a person of significant influence and high social standing. Individuals holding this title often held important positions within the government, military, or religious institutions. The title indicated both honor and a degree of authority granted by the King. Its relative position within the overall hierarchy of nobility positioned it above lower titles but below the highest royal designations. The abolition of the Cambodian monarchy and associated nobility in 1970 effectively ended the formal use of the title.
