BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06)
The BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06) is a Gregorio del Pilar-class frigate of the Philippine Navy. It is one of two ships of its class, the other being the BRP Gregorio del Pilar (FFG-15). These frigates were originally Hamilton-class High Endurance Cutters (WHEC) of the United States Coast Guard. The BRP Miguel Malvar was formerly known as the USCGC Dallas (WHEC-716) and was transferred to the Philippines under the Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program.
The frigate is named after General Miguel Malvar, a Philippine revolutionary general who fought during the Philippine Revolution and the Philippine-American War.
The BRP Miguel Malvar primarily serves in maritime security operations, including patrols, search and rescue, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. It is equipped with various sensors and weapons systems to perform these tasks. These may include a 76 mm Oto Melara main gun, anti-ship missiles, and close-in weapon systems (CIWS). The ship also has a flight deck capable of supporting helicopter operations. The acquisition and commissioning of the BRP Miguel Malvar significantly enhanced the Philippine Navy's capabilities in safeguarding its maritime territory and responding to various maritime emergencies.
