Thomas Carr (artist)

Thomas Carr (born 1907, died 1997) was an American artist best known for his Regionalist-style paintings and lithographs depicting scenes of American industry, urban landscapes, and working-class life. Born in Racine, Wisconsin, Carr studied at the Art Students League in New York City under Thomas Hart Benton and Kenneth Hayes Miller. He was associated with the Woodstock art colony in New York. His work is often characterized by its social realism and its focus on the everyday experiences of ordinary people. Carr's art can be found in the collections of numerous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He was a member of the American Artists' Congress and a proponent of art that addressed social issues.
