Ascension Cathedral (Veliko Tarnovo)

The Ascension Cathedral (Bulgarian: Катедрален храм "Възнесение Господне", Katedralen hram "Vaznesenie Gospodne") is a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral located in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. It serves as the seat of the Metropolitan of Veliko Tarnovo.

The cathedral was constructed in 1927-1930 on the site of the former Church of the Holy Ascension, which was destroyed during the 1913 earthquake. The new cathedral was designed by architect Alexander Rashenov in the Neo-Byzantine style. It is notable for its interior murals, painted in the 1980s by a team led by Professor Teofan Sokerov, and which depict scenes from the Old and New Testaments, as well as Bulgarian historical figures and events.

The cathedral is located on a prominent hilltop within Veliko Tarnovo, offering panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape. It is a significant landmark and a place of worship for the local Orthodox Christian community and a popular destination for tourists visiting Veliko Tarnovo. The Ascension Cathedral is one of the largest Orthodox churches in Bulgaria.
