Ankush (kabaddi)

Ankush is a defensive technique in the sport of kabaddi, primarily employed by corner defenders. It involves the defender using their thighs and legs to trap the raider's leg(s), preventing them from escaping back to their own half of the court. The effectiveness of an Ankush depends on timing, strength, and support from other defenders to complete the tackle. The goal of the Ankush is to immobilize the raider long enough for other defenders to converge and secure the tackle, earning a point for the defending team and preventing the raider from scoring. A successful Ankush often requires the defender to quickly drop their center of gravity and firmly grip the raider's leg(s) with their thighs, utilizing body weight and leverage to restrict movement.
