Territory (2023 film)
Territory is a 2023 documentary film directed by Alex Pritz. The film focuses on the Indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people of the Brazilian Amazon rainforest and their struggle to protect their ancestral lands from deforestation and encroachment by farmers and settlers. It provides a perspective from both the Uru-eu-wau-wau as they patrol and defend their territory, and the perspectives of the farmers who seek to cultivate the land. The film highlights the conflicts arising from competing land uses, the ecological importance of the rainforest, and the challenges faced by Indigenous communities in preserving their way of life in the face of economic and political pressures. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022, where it received critical acclaim and won the Audience Award: World Cinema Documentary. The film was later released in 2023.
