Andrea Parker (musician)
Andrea Parker is a British electronic music DJ, producer, and label owner. She is best known for her contributions to the development of abstract electronica, trip hop, and experimental dance music throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
Parker began her career as a DJ in London's vibrant club scene, gaining recognition for her eclectic sets that blended diverse genres like hip-hop, breakbeat, and ambient. She was one of the resident DJs at the influential "Metalheadz" night.
In the mid-1990s, she transitioned into music production, releasing tracks on labels such as Mo' Wax and Source. Her sound is characterized by intricate rhythms, atmospheric textures, and a distinctive sense of sonic exploration. She co-founded the record label Touchin' Bass in 1996, a platform for showcasing innovative electronic music artists.
Her debut album, Kissing Brand New Bottles, released in 1998, received critical acclaim for its innovative and genre-bending approach. She has also released numerous EPs and singles, and collaborated with various artists including David Byrne and Scanner. Parker continues to DJ and produce music, remaining a significant figure in the landscape of experimental electronic music.
