Ambung

Ambung is a Filipino (Tagalog) word that describes the act of carrying something, typically a child, on one's hip or waist, often using an arm or a piece of cloth for support. It implies a close, nurturing hold. The word can also refer to the position of carrying something in this manner. It suggests a casual, comfortable, and readily available form of carrying, as opposed to more structured baby carriers. While most frequently used in reference to carrying children, "ambung" can sometimes be used to describe carrying other lightweight objects in a similar way. The practice of pag-aambung (the act of carrying in this manner) is common in many cultures, particularly in regions where mothers need to be able to work and tend to their children simultaneously.
