Blood Feud (The Simpsons)
"Blood Feud" is the sixth episode of the second season of the animated television series The Simpsons. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on February 21, 1991.
The episode's plot centers around Mr. Burns contracting a rare blood disease and requiring a blood transfusion. When no compatible donors are found, Bart reluctantly volunteers after discovering his blood type matches. Following the successful transfusion, the Simpson family eagerly anticipates a reward from Burns, expecting significant compensation for Bart's lifesaving act.
The episode explores themes of greed, gratitude (or lack thereof), and the often-unequal power dynamic between the wealthy and the working class. While the Simpsons initially expect monetary compensation, they ultimately receive only a personalized letter from Burns expressing thanks, which greatly disappoints Homer.
The episode features a dream sequence where Homer envisions various outlandish scenarios based on different levels of reward, ultimately building to an extreme level of riches. In the end, Lisa consoles Homer by highlighting the genuine satisfaction Bart should feel from saving a life, reminding him of the value of altruism over material gain.
"Blood Feud" is considered a classic Simpsons episode and is remembered for its satirical commentary on wealth and generosity, as well as its memorable moments such as Bart's initial reluctance to donate blood and Homer's escalating expectations. The episode was written by George Meyer and directed by David Silverman.
