Çivril

Çivril is a town and district in the Denizli Province of Turkey. It is located in the inner Aegean region of the country.

Çivril is notable for its proximity to Lake Işıklı (Işıklı Gölü), a freshwater lake known for its reedbeds and avian biodiversity, making it an important birdwatching site. The lake and surrounding areas also support agriculture.

Historically, the area around Çivril has been inhabited since ancient times. The town derives its name from the ancient city of Cibyra, though the precise location of ancient Cibyra relative to modern Çivril is a subject of some debate among historians and archaeologists. Cibyra, at various points in its history, was part of the Phrygian, Lydian, and Roman empires.

The economy of Çivril is primarily based on agriculture, particularly the cultivation of apples, cherries, and other fruits. Tourism, focused on Lake Işıklı and its natural environment, also contributes to the local economy.

Administratively, Çivril is a district (ilçe) within Denizli Province, governed by a district governor appointed by the central government and a locally elected mayor.
