Alpha (motorcycle)

The Alpha motorcycle was a British motorcycle manufactured by Alpha Motors in Coventry, England, from 1903 to 1930. Initially, Alpha produced motorcycles using proprietary engines from Minerva and MMC. These early models featured belt drive and typically single-cylinder engines.

Later, Alpha developed its own engines, including single-cylinder and V-twin configurations. The marque gained a reputation for producing reliable and well-engineered machines, though they were not particularly innovative compared to some contemporaries.

Alpha motorcycles participated in various forms of motorcycle sport, including the Isle of Man TT races in the early years. While they didn't achieve significant racing success, their participation helped to raise the brand's profile.

The company ceased motorcycle production in 1930, likely due to the economic pressures of the Great Depression and increased competition from larger motorcycle manufacturers. Today, Alpha motorcycles are sought after by vintage motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors, representing a piece of early British motorcycle history. Existing examples can be found at vintage motorcycle rallies and museums.
