Alcindor

Alcindor, before 1971, refers to Lew Alcindor, the birth name of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. on April 16, 1947) is an American retired professional basketball player who played 20 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

Alcindor achieved significant success in his basketball career at Power Memorial Academy in New York City, leading his team to three consecutive Catholic High School championships. He then played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins, where he won three consecutive NCAA championships under coach John Wooden.

In 1971, Alcindor converted to Islam and adopted the Arabic name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, meaning "noble servant of the Almighty". After this point, the name Alcindor is primarily used historically to refer to his early life and basketball career prior to his name change.
