Aigel (band)

Aigel (Russian: Аигел) is a Russian electronic hip hop duo formed in 2016 in Naberezhnye Chelny. The group consists of vocalist Aigul Gaisina and electronic musician Ilya Baramiya.

The band's music is characterized by its combination of Gaisina's spoken word vocals, often delivered in Tatar or Russian, with Baramiya's minimalist and hard-hitting electronic beats. Lyrically, their songs often explore themes of societal issues, personal experiences, and the complexities of modern life in Russia.

Aigel gained significant popularity in Russia and internationally with the release of their album "1190" in 2017, which drew inspiration from Gaisina's personal experience with her partner's incarceration. The album's raw emotion and stark realism resonated with a wide audience.

The band has released several albums and EPs, continuing to develop their unique sound and explore new sonic territories. Their work has been recognized with various music awards and nominations. In 2023, their song "Пыяла" ("Pyala" or "Glass" in Tatar) gained international attention after being featured in the Netflix series Wednesday.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Aigel publicly condemned the war and relocated outside of Russia. The band continues to release music and perform internationally.
