Skitby
Skitby is a small village and civil parish in the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England. It is located approximately 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Carlisle.
The name "Skitby" is believed to be of Norse origin, likely derived from "Skítr-bý," meaning "Skítr's farm" or "dirty farm." "Skítr" was a Norse personal name.
Historically, Skitby was primarily an agricultural community. Modern Skitby is a small, rural settlement consisting of scattered farms and houses. There is a limited range of local services within the village itself; residents typically travel to nearby towns for shopping, education, and employment.
Skitby's civil parish includes the settlement of Scaleby Hill. Administratively, it falls under the City of Carlisle district council.
