Tony Smith (basketball)

Tony Smith is a retired American basketball player and coach. He played college basketball for Marquette University from 1986 to 1990, where he was known for his scoring ability and leadership. Smith was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round (46th overall) of the 1990 NBA draft but did not play for them. He subsequently played professionally in Europe and the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).

Following his playing career, Smith transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach at several colleges, including Saint Louis University. He later became a head coach in the NBA Development League (D-League, now the NBA G League), leading the Dakota Wizards and the Iowa Energy.

Smith has also held scouting positions in the NBA. He has worked for teams such as the Denver Nuggets and the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, focusing on player evaluation and talent identification.
