Ninjemys
Ninjemys is an extinct genus of meiolaniid cryptodire turtle that lived in Australia during the Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs. Fossils have been found in Queensland and New South Wales.
Ninjemys is notable for its large size and the presence of prominent horns on its head. The genus is closely related to Meiolania, another extinct giant horned turtle, but Ninjemys is distinguished by differences in the morphology of its cranial horns and shell.
The name Ninjemys is derived from "ninja," referencing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, reflecting the perceived resemblance of the turtle's horned skull to ninja weapons.
The diet of Ninjemys is believed to have consisted primarily of vegetation. The extinction of Ninjemys, along with other megafauna in Australia, is thought to have occurred during the Pleistocene-Holocene transition and may have been influenced by climate change and/or human activity.
