Aberavon (UK Parliament constituency)

Aberavon is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Stephen Kinnock of the Labour Party.

Boundaries:

The constituency covers the western part of the industrial town of Port Talbot and its surrounding areas in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, South Wales. It includes the electoral wards of Aberavon, Baglan, Briton Ferry West, Bryn and Cwmavon, Cymmer, Glyncorrwg, Gwynfi and Croeserw, Margam, Port Talbot, Sandfields East, and Sandfields West.

History:

The constituency was created in 1918 and has been a Labour stronghold since its inception. It has been held by prominent Labour figures such as Ramsay MacDonald (briefly), Wernor Probert, John Morris (later Lord Morris of Aberavon), and Hywel Francis. The area has historically been dominated by the steel industry, though its economic base has diversified in recent years.
