A. S. Rao

A. S. Rao (Attaluri Sreerama Rao) (1914-2003) was an Indian scientist and engineer, considered a pioneer in the field of nuclear power in India. He is best known for his contributions to the development of India's atomic energy program, particularly in the areas of reactor design and construction.

Rao played a crucial role in the design and establishment of several of India's early nuclear reactors, including the CIRUS reactor. He served in various capacities at the Atomic Energy Establishment Trombay (AEET), now the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), contributing significantly to the indigenous development of nuclear technology. His work was instrumental in building India's capabilities in nuclear energy and reducing the country's dependence on foreign technology.

Beyond his technical contributions, Rao was also involved in the management and administration of India's nuclear program, helping to shape its strategic direction during its formative years. He received several awards and recognitions for his contributions to science and technology in India.
