6th Armoured Brigade (Australia)

The 6th Armoured Brigade was an armoured brigade of the Australian Army. Formed in 1942 during World War II, it was initially designated the 6th Motor Brigade and converted to an armoured formation later in the war. It was composed primarily of Militia (reserve) units and was part of the 3rd Armoured Division.

Throughout the war, the brigade undertook training in Australia, preparing for potential combat against the Japanese. However, it was never deployed overseas and remained in Australia, primarily in New South Wales, fulfilling defensive roles. The brigade's main function was to provide a mobile armoured reserve in the event of an invasion of the Australian mainland.

The 6th Armoured Brigade was disbanded in 1945 following the end of World War II, as part of the demobilization of the Australian military. Its role in the defense of Australia, while not involving active combat, was considered important in ensuring the nation's security during a critical period.
