USS Pipit (AMc-1)

The USS Pipit (AMc-1) was a coastal minesweeper of the United States Navy. She was one of twelve ships of the ACM-1 class, often referred to as the Adjutant class when referring to later vessels in the series even though Pipit and her initial sisters were ordered before the lead ship, Adjutant. Built by the Greenport Basin and Construction Company of Greenport, New York, Pipit was laid down on August 15, 1941, launched on December 8, 1941, and commissioned on June 6, 1942.

Pipit served primarily in the waters off the United States East Coast and in the Caribbean during World War II. Her duties involved sweeping for mines to ensure the safe passage of naval and merchant vessels. Specific details of her operational history are not widely documented in publicly available sources beyond her general role in coastal defense and minesweeping.

Following the cessation of hostilities, Pipit was decommissioned on October 31, 1945. She was struck from the Navy List on January 8, 1946, and sold on November 14, 1946. Her ultimate fate is not readily available in publicly accessible records. The Pipit represents a small but vital part of the US Navy's efforts to maintain maritime safety during a critical period.
