Zhi (excrescences)

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), zhi (痣) refers to various skin excrescences or growths. These can include moles, skin tags, warts, and other benign skin lesions. While often translated simply as "moles," the term encompasses a broader range of dermatological conditions characterized by abnormal skin development.

Diagnosis in TCM involves observation of the size, shape, color, location, and texture of the zhi, as well as consideration of other symptoms and the patient's overall health. From a TCM perspective, the appearance of zhi can reflect imbalances in the body's vital energy (qi), blood, and organ systems. Certain locations or characteristics of the zhi may be associated with particular organ disharmonies or potential health issues.

Treatment approaches vary depending on the specific diagnosis and the patient's individual condition. Options may include herbal remedies, acupuncture, moxibustion, and dietary modifications. The goal of treatment is typically to address the underlying imbalances believed to be contributing to the development of the zhi and to promote overall well-being. In some cases, surgical removal or other conventional dermatological treatments may be recommended in conjunction with TCM therapies. It is important to consult with a qualified practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Self-treating is not recommended.
